Ormeggio at The Spit

On the edge of Middle Harbour, where yachts and sailing boats find their moorings, Ormeggio at The Spit offers an interpretation of Italian dining shaped by its Sydney setting. The waterfront defines the restaurant, with light from the marina filling a dining room that feels connected to the coastal environment. The location merges with a distinct culinary perspective, creating something both sophisticated and inherently relaxed. The focus is seafood, a clear departure from many traditional expectations of Italian cooking in favour of showcasing sustainable Australian produce. While handmade pasta provides a familiar foundation, the kitchen has become noted for dishes that highlight the freshness of their ingredients through modern techniques. Past offerings have included yellowfin tuna crudo with pistachio cream and a unique crumbed swordfish cotoletta, demonstrating a creative sensibility rooted in high-quality seafood. This is not about replication, but a conversation between Italian ideas and local Australian products. The lively atmosphere is centred around a prominent cocktail and gelato bar, where desserts are often prepared in full view of the room. The house-made gelato, served as a classic coppa, has become a memorable part of a visit. This element of theatre contributes to the restaurant's character, blending the polish of a refined dining destination with a certain approachability. Ormeggio at The Spit presents a vibrant, contemporary vision of Italian food in Mosman, tied to its sparkling harbour views.
